Let Them Eat Bugs

The aristocrats of the main stream media have finally stooped to the level of the most infamous mall rat in all of history, Marie Antoinette.

As modern history unfolds with our nation's own unique ritual to select the holder of the highest political office in the world's most powerful nation, instead of offering citizens the opportunity to witness the events of the Democratic and Republican National Conventions which will select our next President and determine the future course of world events, network television served viewers re-run episodes of Law & Order, CSI and Fear Factor.

Fear Factor, instead of civic duty . . . instead of national pride . . . instead of history in the making.

There is an important lesson in irony here as well.

Just as the political conventions have become -- with the help of the likes of director Steven Spielberg and nine-time Emmy winning producer Don Mischer -- events crafted and finely tuned for the modern visual medium of television, ABC, CBS and NBC have turned their backs on them as "stage-managed, no news events" or as Tom Brokaw derisively called them, the "Kabuki dance" of democracy.

As opposed to the culturally significant and newsworthy reality programming of Fear Factor.

And then they are all shocked when the likes of FOX News usurps their throne in the ratings.

Peter, Dan and Tom would do well to recall how the queen lost her head in the revolution.
