Talk of Talk Radio Demise Premature?

SAN FRANCISCO -- Basking in the glory of having won back both houses of Congress from Republicans, liberals in San Francisco, New York and New Orleans held mock funeral processions for conservative talk radio, even going so far as to bury an AM transistor radio in Golden Gate Park, but like voices from the grave, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Glen Beck and their cohorts on the extreme right continue to haunt the Democrat Party.

"They lost the election -- why are they still on the air?" actor Michael J. Fox demanded to know. "Make Limbaugh stop. Make him stop NOW!"

On his radio show, Rush Limbaugh claimed that "idiot Air America staffers" showed up at the EIB Studios shortly after the election to "measure the place for new drapes as if they were moving into the White House."

The failure to silence extremists on the airwaves has sparked a psychiatric healthcare crisis in Southern California as sky-rocketing demand for therapist appointments is causing a dramatic jump in hourly billing rates, leading some to call for an emergency marshal law-like revival of the Fairness Doctrine.

"It is crystal clear that for our country to continue to enjoy true freedom of speech and to protect the general health and welfare of the public, especially women, minorities and young children," said Democrat Senator Richard Durbin, "That we need to put a muzzle on these guys."

The Fairness Doctrine was a United States FCC regulation requiring broadcast licensees to present controversial issues of public importance in a manner deemed by the FCC to be honest, equitable and balanced.

Pamela Anderson often appears on the Howard Stern radio show.
