Kick Flick Falters with Falls Filming Freeze
MUDCAT FALLS -- Citing artistic differences with studio executives, writer-director Ed Kick stormed off the set of his feature movie being filmed on the downtown streets of Mudcat Falls as well as the MFCC Campus.
"How can I work like this? This is intolerable," emoted the local dinner theater directing legend by phone from his small swine farm in southern Calabash County where he has gone into seclusion. "The suits are all over me with their ridiculous babble about coherency, continuity and consistency. They have no feel for art -- this is my flesh and blood. This is my life. They only understand the bottom line. Well, by God, they can just have their thirty pieces of silver back."
Bickle, The Musical
, which began filming three weeks ago, picks up where Martin Scorese's winner of the Palme d'Or at the 1976 Cannes Film Festival leaves off, following her
o Travis Bickle through Bob Fosse like dance routines and Andrew Lloyd Webber like melodies as a modern-day, Vietnam-Veteran-turned-urban-Gladiator Spartacus figure who frees the enslaved students of Columbia University and leads them in revolt to overthrow the oppressive, fascist government of U.S. President Milhouse W. Shrub.
A Troma Team Productions spokesman commented, "A grave misunderstanding during the pitch meeting for Mr. Kick's film led us to believe that the story line was a continuation of our
Toxic Avenger
series, not a sequel to
Taxi Driver
. We first became aware of the disconnect when the daily rushes started coming back with show tune
s like "
Mohawks and Taxis and Iris -- Oh My
."
The production was highly touted by the Mudcat Falls Board of Tourism and Commerce as the launching pad for Mudcat Falls to become the next Toronto or Vancouver for Hollywood to outsource their location shoots, thus spurring a much needed economic revival for the area.
"We are, of course, disappointed in this set back," said MFBT&C Chairperson Alicia Fingletart. "But at least now we understand all the Troma team talk about pollution and hazardous waste when they got so excited about filming in our town."
